KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team stayed hot with its fourth win in the last five matches, as the Owls rolled past Detroit Mercy, 4-0, Wednesday night at the Betty Siegel Courts on campus.
 
Sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo was unbeaten on the day, and his singles win clinched the team victory for the Owls (5-5). Seniors Jake Bouchillon and Drew Wendel also won in singles and doubles. UDM fell to 5-8.
 
"I'm happy that our guys came out and took care of business," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "Detroit is not an easy opponent, but we just put our heads down and went to work. For us to be able to win the doubles point, and get two quick singles wins from Jake and Drew, it set Fermin up to clinch it for us. We had a great crowd here that got the guys going, and that helped."
 
Calvo Barcelo and Bouchillon teamed for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while Wendel and David Durham cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 2, as Kennesaw State locked up the doubles point.
 
The hosts took that momentum into singles and Wendel quickly made it 2-0 as he finished off a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Adam Zychowicz. Bouchillon followed suit with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Chance Conley. With the Owls leading 3-0, Calvo Barcelo put the match away at No. 3 with his 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Nathan Ponton.
 
The Owls are back in action at home on Saturday, hosting Alabama A&M. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
