STATESBORO, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team made quick work of Bethune-Cookman on Sunday in Statesboro, Ga., cruising to a 5-0 victory over the Wildcats at the Willis Tennis Center.
 
Simon Pritchard, Drew Wendel and Fermin Calvo Barcelo each were 2-0 on the afternoon as the Owls improved to 4-5 overall. The Wildcats fell to 0-8.
 
"I was really pleased with how our guys rebounded after yesterday," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "Manny (Castellanos) did a great job in clinching the match for us, and I was really impressed again with Fermin. He did a nice job in winning his match quickly and keeping the momentum on our side after doubles. We're looking forward to getting back home and playing Detroit Wednesday under the lights, in what should be a great atmosphere."
 
Pritchard and Wendel teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles over Greg Almeida and Pablo Lopez, 6-1. The doubles point was clinched when Calvo Barcelo and Jake Bouchillon rolled over Alvaro Barrera and David Ocampo, 6-2.
 
Calvo Barcelo kept his foot on the gas at No. 3 singles, as he blanked Ocampo, 6-0, 6-0. Pritchard's singles win at No. 1 over Almeida, 6-2, 6-0, made it 3-0 Owls.
 
Manuel Castellanos clinched the victory for the Black & Gold at No. 4 as he downed Lopez, 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5, Wendel beat Barrera, 6-3, 6-3.
 
The Owls are back home Wednesday night to welcome the University of Detroit at 5 p.m., in the second half of a doubleheader with the women.
