STATESBORO, Ga. – Sam Slade and Drew Wendel won singles matches, but the Kennesaw State men's tennis team dropped a narrow match at Georgia Southern, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Willis Tennis Center in Statesboro.
 
All six singles matches were decided in three sets, and the Owls (3-5) were on even terms at 2-2 after Slade finished off his win at No. 2 singles, but the hosts closed out the final three matches to secure their 12th win (12-5).
 
"Today's match was a great college match," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "Georgia Southern did a very good job jumping on us early in doubles. We responded well in singles but GSU was better than us today. I can't remember the last time I've seen all six matches go the distance. The result could have easily gone the other way. Despite the loss, I think we got better today."
 
The Eagles clinched the doubles point and extended their lead to 2-0 when Stefano Di Aloy won his match at No. 3 over sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
 
Wendel got KSU on the board with his win at No. 5, taking down Artemie Amari, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Slade was then a winner at No. 2 over Eddie Landin, rallying after dropping the first set 6-0 to win the next two sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
 
The Owls remain in Statesboro Sunday to battle Bethune-Cookman. That match begins at 12 p.m.
