KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Kennesaw State women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to visiting Akron Tuesday night at the Betty Siegel Courts.
 
The Zips (18-2) extended their winning streak to 17 consecutive matches with the 7-0 victory. The Owls slipped to 5-9.
 
The momentum of the match swung Akron's way after the Zips pulled out two back-and-fourth doubles matches.
 
Kennesaw State came out and grabbed the first doubles match as Alexandra Mercado and Elle Baker posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. However, Akron squeaked out a 7-6 win in a tiebreaker at No. 1 and clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
 
"Doubles I'm really pleased with how we're playing right now," said Assistant Head Coach Miranda Foley. "We had chances to take some momentum into singles, but they were able to pull out two very close doubles matches and get that first point. Singles, they were just better than we were today. We have to regroup and get ready for a tough ASUN match on Thursday here at home."
 
The Zips were strong in singles play, taking all six matches.
 
Kennesaw State is back in action with a pair of ASUN matches at home this week. Thursday, the Owls welcome North Florida, and Stetson is in town Saturday. Both matches begin at noon at the Betty Siegel Courts.
