KENNESAW, GA. –
Medy Thavong led The Kennesaw State women's golf team to an 11th place finish in Tuesday's final round of the Henssler Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club.
Thavong made two early birdies on her front nine and closed her round with six consecutive pars to post the Owls low round of the day at 1-over par 73. Thavong finished the tournament tied for 14th with a five-over par total of 221. She tied for the field lead with 39 pars in the tournament. Thavong was the Owls top scorer for the fourth time this spring and sixth this season.
The Owls posted a 306 in the final round for a total of 36-over par 900 total. No. 13 Kent State won the event with a total of 12-over par 876 by one shot over No.24 Purdue and two shots over No.35 Texas Tech.
"I'm disappointed in our overall team result this week," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We had great expectations and confidence heading into our home event in a stacked field, but we just didn't have the scores to post a good finish. Medy is having such a great spring season, and another top 15 finish for her is fantastic. We also had solid play from Madison, although as an individual her score does not contribute to the team. We need more depth and consistent play from the bottom of the lineup. I still have complete confidence in the whole lineup we just need to piece it together for three complete rounds. We're so close to breaking through, and I know the best of us is still to come."
Dulcie Sverdloff made par on her final four holes of the final round to finish with a five-over par 77. She finished the tournament tied for 37th with a 10-over par total of 226.
Charlotte Charrayre had four pars and a birdie on her final nine holes. Charrayre carded a six-over par 78 in the final round. She finished the tournament tied for 41st with a total score of 14-over par 230. Her 37 pars for the tournament were tied for eighth most in the field.
Senior
Laura Estefenn battled again through a tough first nine holes of the day and finished her final round with five pars on her last nine holes to post a seven-over par 79. She finished tied for 56th with a 14-over par total of 230.
Junior
Henriette Nielsen birdied three of her first six holes of the day. She carded a final round 78 and tied for 61st with a 15-over par total of 231.
Playing as an individual, sophomore
Maddi Caldwell recorded two birdies and seven pars on the back nine to shoot an even-par final round of 72. She was the top individual finisher after posting a one-over par 217 for the tournament.
The Owls will travel to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico to compete in the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational hosted by Iowa at El Tigre Country Club April, 2-4.
