WG: Owls Sit Tied For Ninth on Crowded Leaderboard After Day One of Henssler Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, GA. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team sits in a tie for ninth , on a crowded leaderboard, after Monday's opening 36 holes of the Henssler Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club.
 
The Owls posted a pair of nine-over par scores of 297 for a total of 18-over par 594 after the opening two rounds. KSU is tied with No.45 Augusta for ninth and is just seven shots behind Southern Mississippi for fifth place entering Tuesday's final round. No.24 Purdue leads the field after firing a two-round total score of 575 (-1).
 
 "We had a solid day on the course," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "297-297 is below our average, but of course we always want to be better. We know we left some shots on the course today, especially over our final three holes this afternoon. But we're well positioned for another strong finish, and I have complete confidence in my team to be focused and committed tomorrow."
 
Sophomore Medy Thavong closed the last four holes of her first round with the three pars and a birdie to card a 75. In her second round, Thavong had 13 pars and two birdies in route to a one-over par 73. Thavong is tied for 11th with a two-round total of 148 (+4). 
 
After a pair of early bogeys, Charlotte Charrayre rebounded with 13 pars over her final 15 holes to shoot and opening round 75. Charrayre rolled in 14 pars in her second round to post a two-over par 74. Her 27 pars in her first 36 holes are tied for third-most of any player in the field.
 
Charrayre is tied for 30th with Dulcie Sverdloff as both collected totals of 149 (+5) over the first two rounds. Sverdloff finished the first round with four straight pars to post a two-over par 74. Sverdloff carded a three-over par 75 in the second round.
 
Senior Laura Estefenn battled through a tough first nine holes of the day and finished her first round with eight pars on her last nine holes to post a four-over par 76. In her second-round, she made 12 consecutive pars on the way to a three-over par 75. She is tied for 48th with a two-round total of 151 (+7).
 
Junior Henriette Nielsen had the Owls low-opening round score with a one-over par 73. She tied for 59th with a two-round score of 153 (+9). 
 
Playing as an individual, sophomore Maddi Caldwell shot rounds of 73-72 and is tied for 12th. Her seven birdies over her first 36 holes are tied for fifth-most in the field. 
 
  The Owls conclude play on Tuesday with final-round action beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Pinetree Country Club.  Kennesaw State will be grouped with Augusta, Troy and Eastern Michigan. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
