Contest Marks Final Tune-Up Before Opening ASUN Conference Play at Stetson on Saturday

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team returns to action on Wednesday when it travels south down Interstate 75 to visit Georgia State at the Robert E. Heck Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET).
 
The Owls (22-7) have won 12 out of their last 14 games, and will play their final game before opening ASUN Conference play Saturday (March 25) versus Stetson in DeLand, Fla.

Georgia State begins the week 17-11 overall and 4-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Panthers are coming off a series loss at Troy after dropping two of three to the Trojans over the weekend.

THE SERIES
  • Wednesday's game between Kennesaw State and Georgia State will mark the 24th meeting between the two programs, with the Panthers leading the all-time series, 17-16. Georgia State has won five in a row dating back to the second meeting in 2014. The Owls' last win was a 7-6 victory on Feb. 22, 2014.
BATTED BALLS
  • Kennesaw State continues to lead the ASUN Conference in several offensive categories, including batting average (.338), hits (266), triples (11), home runs (27) and slugging percentage (.529).
  • With their 27 home runs through 29 games this season, the Owls have already surpassed their entire home run total from a year ago when they hit 18 in 58 games.
  • KSU has four players – Olivia Tamewitz (.430, 4th), Hannah Thomason (.411, 5th), Noelle Winkles (.410, 6th) and Taylor Denton (.385, T10th) – ranked among the ASUN's top 10 in hitting.
  • Courtney Sutter (.950) and Winkles (.744) rank first and second, respectively, in slugging percentage. Both players have established single-season career highs in home runs with 10 and six, respectively, to rank first and second in the ASUN.
  • Hannah Thomason has sparked the Owls' offense while hitting in the leadoff spot. In addition to posting a .411 average, the KSU center fielder leads the team and is tied for fourth in the ASUN with 28 runs scored, and is tied for third with 19 stolen bases. Thomason is also two stolen bases shy of equaling her season total of 21 set during her freshman season a year ago.
  • Thomason has been KSU's hottest hitter, boasting an eight-game hitting streak and batting .706 (12-for-17) with four runs scored in her last five games. She has also reached base safely in 14 consecutive games.
  • Senior Taylor Denton has 197 hits and is three shy of reaching 200 for her career.
  • With 31 home runs, senior Courtney Sutter is two away from tying Keri McKee (2004-2007) for sixth place on Kennesaw State's all-time career home run list. McKee totaled 33 during her career.
QUICK PITCHES
  • Kennesaw State is third in the ASUN Conference with a 2.71 earned-run average.
  • Freshman Alley Cutting ranks fifth in the ASUN with a 2.19 ERA, third in opponents' average (.196), tied for fourth in innings pitched (83.0), fourth in strikeouts (103), and tied for third in wins (11).
  • Senior Logan Viers is eighth in ERA (2.59), sixth in opponents' average (.240), eighth in strikeouts (49), and tied for seventh in wins (7).
ON DECK
  • Following Wednesday's game at Georgia State, Kennesaw State will open ASUN Conference play on Saturday (March 25) when it travels to DeLand, Fla., to open a three-game series at Stetson. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. before closing out the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
