KENNESAW, Ga. – On a chilly afternoon, sophomore Hannah Thomason was red hot as she went 4-for-4 to lead Kennesaw State to a 4-3 victory over visiting Southeast Missouri State Wednesday at Bailey Park.

Thomason, who equaled a single-game career high for hits, senior Courtney Sutter and freshman Beth McCulley each provided big hits to help the Owls (20-5) to their 10th straight victory and tie the program's best 25-game start since the 2013 team opened its season with 20 wins in its first 25 games.

Kennesaw State took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by freshman Katey Lynch that scored Thomason. Southeast Missouri State (14-6) then took advantage of a two-out error in the top of the fourth inning when Sarah Messex hit a three-run home run to give the Redhawks a 3-1 lead.

The Owls got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out single by Thomason that scored Chandler Griffin, who walked to open the frame.

Kennesaw State rallied for two runs in the fifth inning. Sutter tied the score with a leadoff home run off the scoreboard in right field to make it a 3-2 game. It marked her ninth of the season, setting a single-season high, and was the 30th of her career.

The Owls then capitalized on a Redhawks miscue when Griffin reached on an error and advanced to second base on the play. Andrea Summey, who pinch ran for Griffin, scored the go-ahead run with some heads-up base running, scoring on a base hit to right field by McCulley.

Freshman Alley Cutting (10-2) made the four runs stand up as she retired six of the last seven batters she faced to finish off her seventh complete game of the season. The Owls' right-hander worked seven innings, allowed three hits, walked one and struck out eight while not allowing an earned run.

Kennesaw State returns to Bailey Park on Thursday (March 16) when it hosts Eastern Illinois in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).

NOTES
  • Senior Taylor Denton extended her hitting streak to a 10 games, while Hannah Thomason and Beth McCulley prolonged their consecutive games reaching base streak to 10. McCulley has also hit safely in eight straight games.
  • With 30 career home runs, Sutter ranks seventh on the Kennesaw State career home run list and is three shy of tying Keri McKee (2004-07) for sixth place.
