KENNESAW, Ga. – Cristina Perez-Martin and
Alexandra Mercado were unbeaten on Thursday, leading the Kennesaw State women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over Jacksonville State at the Betty Siegel Courts on campus.
Â
Perez-Martin and Mercado teamed for a 6-4 win in doubles, and each won their singles matches to help the Owls (1-4) pick up their first win. JSU fell to 3-6.
Â
At No. 1 singles, Mercado won for the third time in four matches as the junior took down Genevie Ulanday, 6-4, 6-0, in straight sets. Perez-Martin won her match at No. 2 singles, coming from a set down to win 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.
"It feels good to get that first win and get some momentum going," said Assistant Head Coach
Miranda Foley. "It definitely wasn't an easy match. Ally (Mercado) was clutch from start to finish for us in singles and doubles. The pressure has been on us to get a win, and I was really happy with how they handled that pressure and responded."
Â
Kennedy Craig also picked up a singles victory for the Owls, rolling past Malin Buechner in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
Â
The Owls are back in action Saturday, March 4 versus Bethune-Cookman in Statesboro, Ga. The match begins at 9 a.m.
