FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. –
Medy Thavong of the Kennesaw State women's golf team posted a final round six-under par 66 to lead the Owls to a fourth place finish at the Amelia Island Collegiate that wrapped up on Tuesday (Feb.21) at the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf Course in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
The sophomore's 66 tied her for fifth overall with an even-par total of 216 for the tournament. Her 66 joins her with former Owls Ines Lescudier and current assistant coach
Ket Preamchuen for the lowest round on a par-72 course in program history. The 66 is also her career-best round by three strokes.
"Days like this are very satisfying, to see a player shoot 66 that's been putting in hard work every day really makes me happy," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "As a team, to move up to fourth demonstrates the tenacious nature of this lineup. Maddi (Caldwell) also needs to be mentioned for her 71, her first under par round as an Owl. There will be plenty more to come! I'm so proud of the way this team evaluated their play last night and came back out today and fixed the issues we faced."
The Owls carded a 3-over par 291 in the final round to close out the tournament with a two-day total of 30- over par 894.
Sophomore
Charlotte Charrayre finished tied for 21st place. Charraryre fired a final round five-over par 77 to finish with a total of eight-over par 224.
