KENNESAW, Ga. – With its 52-48 victory over North Florida Saturday (Feb. 18) at the KSU Convocation Center, the Kennesaw State women's basketball program achieved a milestone by locking up the No. 4 seed and securing its first ASUN Tournament home game.
Â
The Owls (8-18, 7-5) will host a tournament quarterfinal game on March 3. The opponent and time will be announced at a later date.
Â
The win also clinched KSU's first .500 or better ASUN Conference record since 2008-09 when it finished 11-9.
Â
In a back-and-forth game that had 10 lead changes and was tied seven times, senior
Deandrea Sawyers hit a 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining to put Kennesaw State ahead 47-46, and the Owls went 5-for-6 from the foul line to pull out the victory.
Â
Junior
Kelly Dulkoski hit five 3-pointers to lead Kennesaw State with 15 points, while sophomore
Allison Johnson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Â
"Today we made history as we were able to win this game and get a home seed for Kennesaw State," head coach
Agnus Berenato said. Â "It's great for Kennesaw State and the community, and I hope everyone comes out on March 3 to support us."
Â
The Owls took a 39-37 lead into the fourth quarter and built a five-point lead early in the period on a 3-point basket by Dulkoski. The Ospreys (10-17, 3-9) kept it close and took a 46-44 lead on a layup by Jaiveonna Norris with 2:45 left in the game.
Â
However, Sawyers answered with a 3-pointer and Kennesaw State made its free throws down the stretch.
