KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team made quick work of visiting Alabama State, beating the Hornets 4-0 on Saturday at the Betty Siegel Courts in Kennesaw.
 
The format of Saturday's match was adjusted following a rain delay, and the singles matches were played first. The Owls picked up victories at No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 to clinch the victory and improve the team to 2-4 this season. Doubles matches were not played.
 
"The men got the job done," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "They did what they needed to do and Sammy (Slade) had a really good match. We knew coming in that that was one of their best points, and it was good to see that Sammy was able to finish that and help us clinch it. Now we have a day off tomorrow and we'll hit the courts next week to prepare for another tough match on Thursday."
 
Junior Manuel Castellanos clinched the Owls victory with his win at No. 5 singles. He took down Karlo Skvorc, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo got things rolling for the Owls with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Carl-Louis Luckman, and senior Simon Pritchard followed quickly after with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 over Takura Mlambo.
 
KSU's third singles win came from Sam Slade at No. 2 as the senior gutted out a tough three-setter over Ion Efrim, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0.
 
Kennesaw State improved to 2-4 with the victory and returns to action next Thursday, hosting Jacksonville State at 2 p.m.
