LIHU'E, Kaua'i – The No. 25 Kennesaw State men's golf team recorded a 12th place finish at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate that concluded Friday (Feb. 17) at the par-72, 6,991-yard Wailua Golf Course in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.

The Owls carded a final-round 6-over par 294 to finish the 54-hole tournament with a 12-over par total of 876. Fourth-ranked Virginia led wire-to-wire to capture the team title with a 29-under par 835 score, and finish four shots ahead of No. 18 Texas A&M (839, -25)

The 18-team tournament featured seven teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50, marked the first event of the spring schedule for Kennesaw State.

"The finish gives us an opportunity to reevaluate before we get into the teeth of our busy spring schedule," head coach Bryant Odom said. "Pablo (Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres), Jake (Fendt) and Teremoana (Beaucousin) had consistent rounds and overall very solid tournaments.

"However, we need all five players in the mix each day to compete at the level we have come to expect," Odom said. "We have two weeks before the Auburn tournament and that gives us some time to prepare."

Torres was consistent throughout the three days, posting scores of 72-72-72 for an even-par total of 216 to finish in a tie for 22nd. Beaucousin led the Owls during Friday's play, carding a 1-under par 71 to tie for 26th at 1-over par 217.

Fendt (218, +2) tied for 32nd, while senior Christopher Guglielmo (229, +13) tied for 88th and junior Paul Doig (230, +14) tied for 91st.

Second-round leader Chandler Phillips of Texas A&M captured individual medalist honors, concluding play with a 15-under par total of 201 to finish three shots ahead of Santa Clara's Hayden Shieh, who finished at 12-under par 204 to place second.

The Owls are next in action on March 5 when they open play at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn at the Grand National Golf Course in Pelika, Ala.
