WBB: Owls Conclude Home Stand Versus East Carolina

GAMEDAY STORYLINES
• Kennesaw State (3-6) will close out a three-game home stand and play at the KSU Convocation Center for the final time in the 2017 calendar year when it hosts East Carolina (4-4) Monday at 5 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and serve as Greek, Housing and SGA Night.   
• Monday's contest with the Pirates concludes a stretch of three games in five days for the Owls, who returned home on Thursday (Nov. 30) to record a victory over Georgia State (71-61) and defeated Middle Georgia State (81-65) on Saturday (Dec. 2).
• Kennesaw State enters Monday's contest with a pair of streaks on the line. The Owls have won consecutive games for the first time this season and four in a row at the KSU Convocation Center dating back to last year. A win against East Carolina will mark Kennesaw State's eighth win in its last nine games on its home floor.
• Kennesaw State has put together its best two performances of the season in its last two games, defeating Georgia State and Middle Georgia State. The Owls have averaged 76.0 points while limiting its opponents to 63.0 points a contest. KSU is shooting 44.7 percent from the field and has out-rebounded the opposition by 11.0 boards a game.
• Balanced scoring has highlighted the Owls' last two wins as four players are scoring in double figures. Freshman Kamiyah Street (21.5) leads KSU, followed by Carlotta Gianolla (13.0), Clara Young (10.0) and Lexi Mann (10.0)
• The 2017-18 season marks Kennesaw State's 13th at the Division I level and the Owls are 136-227 (.375) since the 2005-06 season.   
• Head coach Agnus Berenato, who is in her 31st season as a Division I head coach, is in her second year leading the Owls. She has an all-time career record of 457-439 (.510).
 
GUEST COACH
Charlotte Doolin, who serves as executive assistant to the director of athletics at Kennesaw State, will join head coach Agnus Berenato and her team on the bench as a guest coach for Monday's game versus East Carolina. 
 
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA
The Pirates are currently 4-4 on the season and have won three in a row, including a 51-46 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday. ECU is averaging 63.1 points a game while allowing 62.6 points a contest. The Pirates have received balanced scoring throughout its lineup with senior Thais Oliveira and freshman Ariyana Williams averaging 9.5 and 9.0 points a game, respectively.         
 
SERIES VERSUS EAST CAROLINA
Monday's game between Kennesaw State and East Carolina marks the first meeting between the two programs.
 
MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE RECAP 
Sparked by a big first half from senior Clara Young and a double-double by freshman Alexis Poole, Kennesaw State posted an 81-65 victory over visiting Middle Georgia State Saturday at the KSU Convocation Center. Young scored a career-high 18 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, and added eight assists, while Poole posted career-highs with 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Owls (3-6). Freshman Kamiyah Street (17) and sophomore Carlotta Gianolla (14) also reached double digits in points. Young led the charge in the first half, scoring 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including five 3-pointers, that helped the Owls build a 45-38 halftime lead. After a slow start that included eight turnovers in the opening quarter, KSU found its rhythm, committing just four second-quarter turnovers and outscoring Middle Georgia State, 27-17 over the final 10 minutes of the first half.
 
YOUTH SERVED
With five freshmen on its roster, Kennesaw State began the 2017-18 season as one of the youngest Division I teams in the country. KSU ranks seventh in the nation with 45.4 percent of its roster comprised of freshmen, while 63.6 percent are either freshmen or sophomores, a mark that ranks 13th nationally. UNCG (87.7 percent) has the highest percentage of freshmen and sophomores, while Savannah State (64.3 percent) - a 2017-18 KSU opponent - has the highest percentage of freshmen on its roster.  
 
STREET SOARING
Freshman guard Kamiyah Street has adjusted well to the college level as she currently leads the Owls in scoring, averaging 15.6 points a game. She has led KSU in scoring five times and reached double digits in seven of nine contests. The Owls' rookie leads all ASUN freshmen in scoring, ranking second, and is second in steals (2.7 per game). 
 
GIANOLLA SHINES
Sophomore Carlotta Gianolla, who is returning to form following an injury, has started the last five games and is second on the team with 8.6 points a game. She has reached double digits in four of her five starts while averaging 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds a game.  She tallied a season-high 19 points and nine rebounds in the Owls' win over Presbyterian. The KSU sophomore has scored at least 12 points in each of her last three games. 
 
YOUNG SETS CAREER HIGH
Senior Clara Young's big first half versus Middle Georgia State helped her establish a career high in points scored. The Owls' senior guard hit five 3-pointers and finished with a personal-best 18 points, eclipsing her previous high of 17 accomplished twice. 
 
YOUNG CLIMBING CAREER CHARTS
Redshirt-senior Clara Young has made the most of her opportunities during her three seasons as an Owl. She is currently third in Kennesaw State Division I history in assists (208), ninth in steals (81) and seventh in games started (60).
 
POOLE PROGRESSING
Freshman forward Alexis Poole is making an impact on the Owls this season. Poole, is averaging 7.1 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. She ranks third in the conference in rebounding and her 18 boards against Middle Georgia State rank as the third-most in KSU Division I history. 
 
A WINNING FORMULA
In their three wins, The Owls are averaging 70.7 points a game, shooting 45.2 percent from the field, and out-rebounding their opponent by an average of 13.3 boards a game. Freshman Kamiyah Street has sparked KSU, averaging 20.7 points, 2.5 steals and 2.7 assists, while sophomore Carlotta Gianolla has contributed 15.0 points and 6.0 boards a contest.
 
PRESEASON HONORS
Sophomore Carlotta Gianolla was a unanimous selection to the 2017-18 ASUN Preseason All-Conference team. Gianolla is the reigning ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 24 games during the 2016-17 campaign.
 
Gianolla, who was also a unanimous pick to the ASUN Conference All-Freshman Team, finished in the top 10 of the conference in points per game (10th), rebounding (6th) and field goal percentage (9th). She led all ASUN Conference freshmen in scoring, produced 17 double-digit scoring games and reached double digits in rebounds six times. She recorded six double-doubles and led the Owls in scoring and rebounding seven times.
 
OWLS 4TH IN ASUN COACHES POLL
Kennesaw State, coming off a 10-20 season and fourth-place finish a year ago, was picked fourth in the ASUN Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending tournament champion Florida Gulf Coast, garnered the top spot after receiving 62 points and six first-place votes. Jacksonville was second, after collecting two first-place votes and 53 points. Kennesaw State received 39 points.
 
UP NEXT
The Owls will take a week off for finals before returning to action Friday, Dec. 15, when they travel to Statesboro, Ga., to take on Georgia Southern. Tip-off is 11 a.m.
 
2016-17 REVIEW
• KSU hosted an ASUN Tournament game for first time in program history.
• The Owls posted a 62-60 home victory over NJIT for their first ASUN tourney win since 2011.
• Carlotta Gianolla became just the second KSU individual to earn ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year, joining Taylor Mills (2011-12). She was a unanimous pick.
 
WELCOME TO THE NEST
Agnus Berenato and her staff signed two highly talented recruits during the early signing period. Guards Amani Johnson (North Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny HS) and Peyton Lewis (Hampton, Ga. / Locust Grove HS) will join the Owls' roster next fall.
