The Kennesaw State men's golf team is back in action this weekend when it opens play at the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove in College Grove, Tenn.
 
Action at the 54-hole event gets underway with 18 holes on Sunday (Oct. 8) and continues with 18 holes on Monday (Oct. 9) and Tuesday (Oct. 10). Sunday's opening round begins 9 a.m. (ET) at the par-72, 7,368-yard The Grove Club. The Owls will be grouped with Liberty and are scheduled  to tee off from the 10th hole.
 
The Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove marks the third of four fall tournaments for the Owls. KSU previously competed in the Carpet Capital Collegiate and Shoal Creek Invitational. The fall season concludes with the Pinetree Intercollegiate that begins Oct. 23 at nearby Pinetree Country Club.
 
The Field
The 12-team field for the Shoal Creek Invitational includes Charleston, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Louisiana, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Dakota State, South Florida and Troy.

Odom on the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove
"The Grove is one of our favorite venues of the year. Middle Tennessee hosts a first-class event and the golf course and facilities are some of the best we see in college golf," head coach Bryant Odom said. "We have had great success there with runner-up finishes both times we visited there last season, including the NCAA Regionals, and that adds to our motivation and psychology for this event. I anticipate some really good scores from this team in the next few events. We have been scoring well at home (as a team) and individually on the road. Everyone is ready to bring it all together for a complete team effort."

The Owls are appearing in the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate at The Grove for the second time. Kennesaw State placed second a year ago after posting a 10-over par 874 to finish six shots behind Ole Miss (868, +4). Junior Wyatt Larkin led KSU, carding an even-par 216 total to finish five shots behind Ole Miss' Braden Thornberry (211, -5). The Owls returned to The Grove Club in May for the NCAA Regionals and tied Vanderbilt for second with a 1-over par 865 to finish two shots behind UCF (863, -1).
 
Last Time Out
Kennesaw State totaled an 11-over par 875 and finished eighth at the 12-team Shoal Creek Invitational Presented by Graeme McDowell that concluded Sept. 26 at Shoal Creek Country Club in Shoal Creek, Ala. Junior Jake Fendt tied for seventh after carding a third-round total of even par and finishing with a 3-under par score of 213. Wake Forest claimed the team title with a 15-under par 849 total to capture the team title.
 
Kennesaw State Men's Golf
The Kennesaw State men's golf program has established itself at the national level in recent years as it has made seven consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and advanced to the NCAA Championships on three occasions, including last season. The Owls finished the 2016-17 season ranked No. 47 by Golfstat and No. 37 by Golfweek.
 
Summer Highlights
Redshirt junior Wyatt Larkin made a successful return to competitive play after missing nine months due to a back injury. In his first competitive action, Larkin captured individual medalist honors at the Yamaha Atlanta Open after shooting rounds 68-71 for a 5-under par 139 score and record a two-shot victory. He also tied for low amateur at the Georgia Open, tying for fifth, and tied 17th at Porter Cup at Nigara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.
 
Sophomore Connor Coffee continued the momentum from a strong freshman campaign by finishing second at the Georgia Amateur Championship at West Lake Country Club in Augusta. Posting four rounds in the 60s, Coffee shot rounds of 69-69-65-66 for a 5-under 269 and finished one shot out of first.
 
The 2017-18 Roster
Third-year head coach Bryant Odom welcomes back a veteran team in 2017-18 that includes three of the five players who helped the Owls claim the 2017 ASUN Conference championship and advance to the NCAA Championships. The KSU roster includes two seniors (Buster  Bruton and Paul Doig), four juniors (Wyatt Larkin, Jake Fendt, Adam Morris, Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres), sophomore Connor Coffee and two freshmen (Brady Keran and Justin Kim).
 
2016-17 Season in Review
Kennesaw State had a solid 2016-17 campaign, posting 12 top 10 finishes and 10 top five showings, including three tournament wins. KSU captured the Pinetree Intercollegiate, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational and ASUN Conference Championships.
 
Individually, sophomore Jake Fendt led the Owls with a 72.32 scoring average, had six top 20 finishes, four top 10 showings, and claimed individual medalist honors at the Southern Intercollegiate.
 
2017 Season Honors
Connor Coffee earned ASUN Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors, while seniors Teremoana Beaucousin and Christopher Guglielmo. and sophomore Jake Fendt were named to the all-conference team.
 
Next Up
The Owls are next n action at the Pinetree Intercollegiate at nearby Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw. The tw-day, 54-hole tournament opens Oct. 23.
