Johns Creek, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team tied for first place at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 29) at the par-72, 6,210-yard Highlands Golf Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The final round of the tournament was cancelled due to high winds and unfavorable conditions.
"I couldn't imagine a better way to finish an already record breaking fall season," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "I am so proud of this team. Coming into this event we really wanted a win and the team played so well we earned it. This fall season every player at some point has stepped up and gone low. It's so fun to have a team that any given day a different player can lead the way. We recorded fourth, third, second and first place finishes this fall. We also achieved our goal of a scoring average under 295."
KSU grabbed a tie for the win with Louisville at 20-over par 596 through two rounds. The Owls beat No.15 Illinois and No.41 East Carolina and five teams from Power 5 conferences. KSU finishes the fall not having finished worse than fourth in four tournaments.
Henriette Nielsen collected her best career finish at the tournament. Nielsen finished second with rounds of 77-69 for a 2-over par total of 146. The senior led the field with nine birdies.
"I'm also so happy for Henriette to earn a second place finish in this stacked field," Brinsmead stated "She has worked tirelessly this season and deserves every bit of her success. She is a true leader and great team captain!"
Madison Caldwell finished her strong fall with rounds of 77-70 for a 3-over par total of 147. She rolled in eight birdies and 26 pars in two rounds.
Caldwell and Nielsen collected wins over a pair of ranked players in the field.
"I couldn't imagine a better group of young ladies to coach. We're excited for a productive off season," Brinsmead said.
The Owls will return to action at the Amelia Island Collegiate at Amelia National Golf and Country Club, hosted by Jacksonville University on Feb. 19-20 in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
