Johns Creek, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team sits in a tie for first place after the second round of the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 28) at the par-72, 6,210-yard Highlands Golf Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The Owls recorded the team-low round of the day with an even-par round of 288 to grab a tie for first with Louisville at 20-over par 596 through two rounds. KSU leads the field with 28 birdies through the first two rounds. The Owls are ahead of three teams ranked in the top 41 in the Golfstat rankings.
"This team can outright play," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "To be leading this event after round two plus shooting the lowest overall team and individual score on the day shows we can and will compete with anyone. We came into the round today knowing the course and weather conditions would be challenging and tackled the task with focus and grit. After a 4-over par team front nine, we played the back nine 4-under par. What I love about this team is the contagious energy from all players. We make one birdie and it leads to more and more. We've got another chance to walk away with a title and I know the team is hungry for it. It'll be fun tomorrow to go out and try and finish the fall season with a win."
Leading the way for the Owls, was
Henriette Nielsen who fired a 3-under par 33 over her last nine holes to shoot 3-under par 69 in the second round. She made four of seven birdies in her round over the final final five holes. She sits in second place with a two round total of two-over par 146. Her nine birdies through two rounds leads the field.
Madison Caldwell recorded a bogey free 2-under par 70 in the second round. She is tied for third at 3-over par 147.
Kwan Wongsinth posted her second consecutive round of 3-over par 75 with four birdies and 10 pars. She played her final eight holes of the day at 2-under par. She is tied for 11
th at 6-over par 150. Wongsinth's eight birdies through two rounds are second only to Nielsen.
Roanne Tomlinson rebounded from an opening round 81 with a 2-over par 74 in the second round. She collected two birdies and 10 pars and is tied for 22
nd at 11-over par 155.
Charlotte Charrayre carded an 8-over par 80 and sits in a tie for 45
th at 15-over par 159.
