LOXLEY, Ala. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team received contributions throughout its lineup and is currently in second place after 36 holes of the 11-team Steelwood Collegiate Invitational that opened Saturday at the par-72, 7,096-yard Steelwood Country in Loxley, Ala.
Led by juniors
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres,
Jake Fendt and
Wyatt Larkin, the Owls recorded rounds of 286-293 for a 3-over par 579 and trail top-ranked Alabama (573, -3) by six shots. Eighth-ranked Kentucky (584, +8) is third, while Rice and South Alabama round out the top five.
"I am very pleased with our overall effort today in challenging weather and course setup," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "This morning we battled intermittent rain and blustery winds and the afternoon gave way to similar winds but tougher hole locations. We have a great opportunity in tomorrow's final round to post a solid score and a chance to win the tournament against a quality field that includes two top 10 teams."
Torres recorded rounds of 73-69 for a 2-under par 142 total and is tied for fourth, two shots behind a trio of players that include Alabama teammates Lee Hodges and Jonathan Hardee, and Kentucky's Lukas Euler.
Fendt (69-75 – 144, E) and Larkin (69-75) are among a group of five players tied for 10th place. Freshman
Brady Keran (75-74 – 149, +5) is tied for 26th, while sophomore
Connor Coffee (75-80, 155, +11) is tied for 45th.
The tournament wraps up on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. (ET). The Owls will be grouped with Alabama and Kentucky, and tee off on the first hole beginning at 10:24 a.m. (ET). All the action can be followed live on the Internet at
