KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -
The Kennesaw State women's golf team sits in first place after the second round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Monday (Oct. 23) at the par-72, 5,981-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.

The Owls, who battled wind and rain for most of their rounds, posted a second round 2-over par 290 to grab the lead to headed into the final round. The Owls surged to the lead after going 9-under par as a team over their final nine holes.  KSU's two-round total of 14-over 590 is one shot better than second place Ole Miss.

"Today was about pure grit and tenacity," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "The conditions were the toughest I've seen, all day, rain, wind and torrential downpours all day. Early on we were making bogeys, but we knew if we gutted it out that we could make some birdies. Once we got the momentum going in the right direction, it just kept rolling. We played our second nine holes 9-under par as a team, highlighted by an eagle from Henriette on the fifth hole and a hole in one from Roanne on the seventh hole. Kwan also had stellar day and the break through round we knew she was capable of. I walked with her all day and was so impressed with her composure. It was a fun day, but we've still got work to do tomorrow to earn this title."

Roanne Tomlinson continues to lead the way for the Owls. Tomlinson had a hole-in-one for an eagle, two birdies and nine pars in route to 3-over par 75.  Her hole-in-one is the first by an Owl since Clara Aveling had one at the 3M Augusta Invitational in 2015. She sits in sixth with a two-round total of 2-over par 146.

Madison Caldwell recorded a 2-over par 74 and is tied for seventh with a two-round total of 3-over par 147. Caldwell rolled in 11 pars and a birdie during her second round. She is tied for seventh with a two-round total of 3-over par 147.

Kwan Wongsinth had the Owls low round of the day with a 2-under par 70. Wongsinth carded four birdies and 12 pars in her second round. She is tied for 10th with a two-round total of 4-over par 148.

After an opening round 78, Henriette Nielsen rebounded with a 1-under par 71 on Monday.  She collected an eagle, four birdies, and eight pars during her second round. She is tied for 12th at 5-over par 149 after two rounds.

Charlotte Charrayre posted an 11-over par 83 in the second round. She is tied for 84th with a 24-over par total of 168.

Kennesaw State will tee off in the final round beginning Tuesday (Oct.24) beginning at 8:45 a.m. with a shotgun start.  Live scoring for the final round is available here.
