Kiawah Island, SC. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team continued their strong play as they returned to action at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Sunday (Oct. 22). The team sits in fourth place after the first round at the par-72, 5,981-yard Turtle Point Golf Course.
" Today was all about the grind, and I'm pleased with the current position of the team, "head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. We were the last groups off #1 this morning, and by the time we made the turn to the ocean holes the wind and rain were extreme. We definitely could have managed this difficult stretch better, but I'm proud of how the team bounced back holes 16-18. We will start on the back nine tomorrow and need to take advantage of this. We're only 10 back of first and five from second. So definitely right where we need to be with two rounds to play."
The Owls registered an opening round 12-over par 300 grab fourth place. Ole Miss shot a 2-over par 290 to grab the team lead after round one.
Roanne Tomlinson opened with 1-under par 71 to lead the Owls and is currently tied for third. Tomlinson rolled in five birdies and nine pars during her opening round.
Madison Caldwell carded a 1-over par 73 and is tied for seventh. Caldwell made 12 pars, one eagle and one birdie during her first round.
"Roanne and Madi deserve major props for their rounds today," Brinsmead said. "Both really Stayed calm and managed the course well"
Henriette Nielsen collected 11 pars and one birdie, while
Kwan Wongsinth added nine pars and three birdies as both posted 6-over par scores of 78.
Charlotte Charrayre shot a 13-over par 85 and is tied for 83rd.
