COLUMBIA, MO.-
The Kennesaw State women's golf team opened play at the Johnie Imes Invitational on Monday (Oct.2) and is in fifth place after the first round at the par-72, 6,204-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.

KSU recorded an 8-over par total of 296 in its first round with juniors Madison Caldwell and Roanne Tomlinson leading the Owls with even-par scores of 72. Caldwell rolled in 12 pars and three birdies, while Tomlinson collected 10 pars and four birdies as both players are tied for tenth.

"After really battling all day to post a good round, we let our momentum slip on holes 16-18 and played the last three holes 7-over par as a team," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "It's always a tough pill to swallow when you finish a round that way, but the positive thing is we were only 1-over par as a team to that point, so we did salvage a respectable round. We're in a good position to attack tomorrow, and I'm confident in these athletes that we can move up from fifth place. We're having to play 36 holes tomorrow as there is bad weather moving in. So it's important that we reflect on today's round and approach tomorrow with the same intensity."

Junior Medy Thavong turned in a 3-over par 75 to sit in a tie for 28th in her opening round of the season. Thavong tallied 10 pars and three birdies during the opening round.

Senior Henriette Nielsen is tied for 40th after a 5-over par 77 in her opening round. Nielsen recorded 13 pars and a birdie during her round.

Junior Charlotte Charrayre posted a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 54th after the opening day. The France native carded 12 pars in her opening round.

Missouri leads the 14-team event after posting an even par total of 288 after the first 18 holes of action. Emma Allen and Marit Harryman of Missouri and Veren Gimmy of Missouri State lead all individuals after they each fired 4-under par rounds of 68 in the first round.

Due to inclement weather expected in Missouri on Wednesday, the Owls will play the final 36 holes of the tournament on Tuesday (Oct.3) at the Club at Old Hawthorne with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. ET. Live results for the final round can be found here.
