CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Kennesaw State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision versus Chattanooga Friday night at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
The victory allowed the hosts Mocs to improve to 3-1, while the Owls slipped to 0-2 on the young season.
 
Freshman Aspen Jarrett was credited with the Owls' point in No. 5 singles. Jarrett won the first set 7-5 and was leading 3-2 in the second set when her opponent retired. Junior Cristina Perez-Martin, playing at No. 2 singles, forced a decisive third set before falling. She dropped the opening set 6-4, bounced back to even the match with a gutty 7-6 win, but was unable to pull out a tight one in the third, 11-9.
 
"We started the doubles slow and made some crucial mistakes giving the momentum to Chattanooga," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "They did a great job of staying ahead throughout the match. Aspen kept us alive for a while, winning the first set 7-5. Cristina played an amazing match today and was one point away from the match. She's such a fighter on the court and we're fortunate to have her on our team. We have a few weeks now to focus on some key points we need to improve as a team."
 
The doubles match went to UTC after the hosts won at No. 2 and No. 3 to secure the first point.
 
The women are off until hosting Alabama State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18 at the Betty Siegel Courts on the Kennesaw State campus.
