Gainesville, Fla- The Kennesaw State women's and men's cross country teams competed at the Mountain Dew Invitational on the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida on Saturday Sept. 29
th.
"Today was a strange mix of races and times for us." Kennesaw State head coach
David Poteet said. "We had changed our training in the last few weeks, and some responded wonderfully with their best times. Others times were off a bit, so I'll re-evaluate training going into our next meet at Upstate. Â The course at Mountain Dew was deceiving slower than it appears, we also have a lot of work to do, which we will."
In the women's 5K race, seniorÂ
Kidan Kidane led the way for KSU for the eighth consecutive meet dating back to 2015. Kidane posted a time of 18:22.19 to finish 14th overall. FreshmanÂ
Bonnie Mckinnon grabbed a 37th place finish in 19:23.92. She was followed closely by sophomoreÂ
Caitlyn Farrell who crossed the line in 19:24.39. Freshman Kaitlyn Franklin finished 54
th in 19:53.51. FreshamnÂ
Nicole Zaubi (20:22.91) rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing 62
nd 20:23.3o. Â
Lexi Froh (20:23.30),
Saidah Grant (20:25.24),
Paulette Juieng (21:18.40) and
Magee Morris (21:22.53) also competed for the Owls. The women's team finished eighth overall behind champion Florida.
For the second consecutive meet the men's team was led by junior transfer
Paul Schupp in their 8K race. Schupp finished 13th in 26:30.85. Sophomore Derick Kinyanjui was the next Owl to cross the line finishing 29
th in 27:29.00. He was followed closely by junior Derrick Hand who finished 31th 27:35.78. Just eight seconds later, freshman
Will Hasse crossed the line in 27:43.37. Freshman
Max Warner finished in 29:20.00.
The Owls will head to Spartanburg, South Carolina for the Upstate Classic hosted by USC Upstate on Saturday, October 1.
