GREENVILLE, S.C. –
The Kennesaw State women 's golf team opened play at the 2016 Lady Paladin Invitational on Friday (Sept. 23) at the par-72, 6,313-yard Furman University Golf Course.

KSU sits tied for 15th place as a team after registering a 15-over par total of 303 in its first round with sophomore Charlotte Charrayre pacing the Owls with a one-over par score of 73. The France native connected on three birdies on the day and is tied for 30th.
"We were very close today to posting a top-five score," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Mental errors cost us on the back nine, we played not to make bogey instead of being aggressive. I'm confident we can continue building on our positives from today. We have two rounds remaining to climb the leaderboard. I'm very proud of Charlotte, she had it three-under at one point in her round and had a very good learning day."

Sophomore Medy Thavong and senior Laura Estefenn each turned in a four-over par 76 to sit in a tie for 46th, with Thvong posting 15 pars and Estefenn producing three birdies and nine pars.

Senior Dulcie Sverdloff is tied for 80th after a six-over par 78, while junior Henriette Nielsen posted a eight-over par 80 and is tied for 93rd after the opening day.

Furman leads the 20-team event after posting a seven-under par total of 281 with Middle Tennessee (282), Texas (283) and Illinois (286) close behind after the first 18 holes of action. Emilee Hoffman of Texas leads all individuals with a seven-under par 65 in her first round, while Virginia Tech's Amanda Hollandsworth sits two strokes off the pace after turning in a five-under par 65.

The Owls continue play at the Lady Paladin Invitational with the second round with KSU teeing off from the 10th hole at 9:00 a.m. ET on Saturday (Sept. 24). Live scoring for the second round is available HERE.
