Lubbock, Texas –
The Kennesaw State women's golf team wrapped up its season-opening tournament finishing in 14th at the Red Raider Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at the par-72, 6,541-yard The Rawls Club at TexasTech in Lubbock, Texas.

"We had moments of clarity today on the course as they showed the talent we have but we must work on overall execution and simple scoring," Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Dulcie played a tenacious round today, she was determined to leave today with a score she could be proud of. Medy also had a good event with a top-25 finish. This team is better than this result and we will show that."

The Owls, who played with just four players due to an injury to Clara Aveling which forced her to withdraw, posted a 21-over par final round score of 369 in route to a 69-over par tournament total of 933 in their first competition of the 2016-17 campaign. Sophomore Medy Thavong led KSU with a 10-over par total of 298 after carding a three-over par score of 75 in her final round and finished in a tie for 22nd.

Junior Dulcie Sverdloff highlighted the Owls on Tuesday, turning in the low KSU score of the day with a one-over par 73 to finish with a 13-over par total of 229 to tie for 33rd.

Sophomore Charlotte Charrayre and Senior Laura Estefenn rounded out the scoring for the Owls as both totaled scores of 23-over par 239 to tie for 57th. Charrayre fired a final round 8-over par 80, while Estefenn carded a final round 81.

New Mexico State claimed the team title with a 16-over par tournament total of 880, besting Texas Tech by nine strokes as the Red Raiders turned in a 25-over par total of 889. Oregon (890), ETSU (890) and Augusta (899) rounded out the top five.

Texas Tech's Gabby Barker took home individual medalist honors after posting a two-under par total of 214 besting Jessica Ip of Iowa by one shot.

The Owls will next head to Greenville, S.C., for the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman on Sept. 23-25.
