Lubbock, Texas. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team opened its 2016-17 season at the Red Raider Invitational on Monday (Sept. 13) and is in 14
th place after the first and second rounds at the par-72, 6,541-yard The Rawls Club at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
The Owls registered rounds of 308-316 for a 48-over par total of 624, despite only having four players for both rounds after sophomore
Clara Aveling withdrew from the tournament with an injury during the first round.
"Overall tough day for the team, we were a player down for two rounds and that's always a difficult situation," Kennesaw State head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "The wind wore at us this morning and although the players feel like they executed shots well our ability to score wasn't there. New day tomorrow and a fresh approach to our game plan."
Sophomore
Medy Thavong is pacing the Owls through the first two rounds after carding rounds of 74-77 for a two round total seven-over par 151.
Senior
Dulcie Sverdloff recorded scores of 77-79 for a 12-over par 156 is tied for 48th in her opening two rounds, while fellow senior
Laura Estefenn turned in rounds of 77-81 for a 14-over par 158 and is tied for 59th.
Rounding out the Owls was sophomore
Charlotte Charrayre, who posted rounds of 80-79 is in 61st at 15-over par.
New Mexico State leads the 15-team event with a 36-hole total of 585 ( 9) after firing rounds of 294-291, while the Texas Tech's Lauren Mason leads all individuals with a three-under par total of 141 after rounds of 70-71.
The Owls will wrap up their season-opening tournament with the third and final round on Tuesday (Sept. 13) with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. ET. Live scoring for the final round is available
