FINAL RESULTS
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Senior
Simon Pritchard and junior
Manuel Castellanos claimed the doubles title this past weekend at the Southern Exposure Sunrooms Seahawk Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington. Pritchard also went 2-1 in singles action as the Owls began their fall schedule.
Â
Pritchard and Castellanos dropped just four games en route to winning the Flight A doubles bracket. It is the third doubles title for Castellanos in the last three seasons.
"I'm very pleased with the way the tournament went," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "Not only did Manuel and Simon win a championship, but everybody played and competed well. Simon had a really good showing making it to the semifinals in a very competitive single field. Fermin lost in the first round to the eventual champion in a match that could've gone either way. Lucas and Fermin also had a good showing making it to the semifinals and beating the No. 1-seed on the way."
The duo opened Friday's action with a 6-1 win over Lanthiez and Berdnikoff from James Madison and reached Sunday's championship after dispatching Appalachian State's Morris and Pavlovich, 6-1. Castellanos and Pritchard took the title with a 6-2 win over Gardner-Webb's Plentz and Scholl on Sunday.
