FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Kennesaw State carded a school postseason-record 9-under par 279 on Tuesday and is tied for fourth place after 36 holes of the 2016 NCAA Franklin Regional that is being played at the par-72, 7,190-yard North Course at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Juniors
Christopher Guglielmo and
Teremoana Beaucousin, along with sophomore
Fredrik Nilehn, each recorded 3-under par rounds of 69 to lead the Owls, who are tied with host and No. 9 Vanderbilt at 14-under par 562.
Second-ranked Texas continues to lead the 13-team field at 37-under par 539, 17 shots ahead of No. 26 Virginia (556, -20), which tied the Longhorns for the low round of the day after shooting 17-under par 271. Fourteenth-ranked LSU is third with a 16-under par 560 total.
The top five teams following Wednesday's final round will advance to the NCAA Championships scheduled for May 27 through June 1 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.
After 14 holes of playing 1-under par golf, the Owls got hot as they played the final four holes at 8-under par to move within the cut line.
"The beginning of the round was rainy and cooler and it was hard for the guys to get into a rhythm," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "I could see on the leaderboard the scores were pretty good and we weren't doing bad, we just weren't off to a good start.
"They turned it on, on the back nine and finished stronger today than yesterday and overall it was a better round that puts us in really good position," Odom added. "All we can ask for is to be right around that third to fifth spot and obviously, we would love to be comfortably within the top five, but we've got a great chance tomorrow.
"The guys are playing awesome. All we can ask for is to have a chance tomorrow and we have that," Odom added.
Guglielmo posted his second consecutive 69 and is in 10th place at 6-under par 138, five shots behind Doug Ghim of Texas, who is at 11-under par 133, and holds a one-shot advantage over a group of four players.
Beaucousin is tied for 11th at 5-under par 139 while Nilehn is tied for 19th with a 3-under par total of 141. Sophomore
Wyatt Larkin (145, +1) is tied for 40th, while freshman
Jake Fendt (148, +4) is tied for 57th.
"We have five guys that right now are playing great," Odom said. "Jake was the counting fourth score today and yesterday he wasn't. That's our strength right now. We've got five guys that are playing well and can all count. That is really going to play into our hands tomorrow."
The final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. (ET) with the Owls scheduled to tee off at 8:50 a.m. (ET) and will be grouped with Vanderbilt and Washington. All the play can be followed live at

Kennesaw State enters the final round seeking its third NCAA Championships appearance and second in the last three years. The Owls competed in the final in 2011 and 2014, finishing 26th on both occasions.
