KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Kennesaw State opened a three-game trip to the state of Tennessee with an 8-0 setback to No. 17 Tennessee Tuesday at Lee Stadium in Knoxville.
Tennessee starter Rainey Gaffin (7-3) and Matty Moss limited the Owls (21-16) to a pair of singles by
Noelle Winkles and
Megan Veringa.
The Vols (28-10) scored two runs in the first inning against
Monica Vickery (3-7) and broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning that was highlighted a Lexi Overstreet grand slam.
"We are trying to use these non-conference games to improve on some things heading into the home stretch of conference play and I think we accomplished that tonight," head coach
Tory Acheson said. "Our injuries are forcing some kids into new roles but I think they responded for the most part. I'm proud of the effort and looking forward to tomorrow (Wednesday)."
The Owls were without regular starters
Kara Chambers and
Missy Perkowski.
Kennesaw State will be back in action on Wednesday when it takes on Belmont in Nashville beginning at 6 p.m. (ET).
