SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2016 season came to a close for the Kennesaw State women's tennis team as it fell, 4-2, Lipscomb in the opening round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships Friday in Spartanburg, S.C.

Sophomores Laura Hopton and Alexandra Mercado highlighted the Owls' (3-17) effort as they recorded wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

After losing the doubles point, Hopton defeated Hannah Gamage, 6-2, 6-4, and Mercado followed with a three-set win over Katerina Kandyba, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

Hanna Victorsson was able to record the first singles win for Lipscomb on court four, defeating Isabela Castro 6-2, 6-1.

The closest match of the night was on court three between Laura Kent and Cristina Martin. The Australian Kent was able to survive the first set in a tiebreak that saw neither player extend a lead past one game. Kent won the tiebreak by a score of 7-5 and was able to gain an early break of serve in the second set that she would ride to victory, 6-4.

The Bisons clinched the team victory on court five as Danielle Kinnen posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ashleigh De Wet.
