SPARTANBURG, S.C. – No.6-seeded Kennesaw State fell to the top-seeded Ospreys of North Florida on Saturday afternoon in the Atlantic Sun Championship Semifinals, 4-1, in Spartanburg, S.C. and concluded its season.
UNF jumpstarted the dual match winning doubles play, taking the point after winning the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, 6-3. KSU's tandem
David Durham and
Drew Wendel went unfinished and were in the midst of a 5-4 match before the point was secured by the Ospreys.
Down 1-0, UNF took the first three completed singles matches to secure a spot in the 2016 A-Sun Championship, where the Ospreys will take on Spartans of USC Upstate, who defeated FGCU earlier in the day.
Drew Wendel defeated Jonathan Deautriell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, for the Owls in singles play.
Sam Slade led in his match 6-4, 3-1 before play was concluded and was marked unfinished, and
Simon Pritchard forced a third set in his match before being marked unfinished.
The Owls concluded their season with a 10-10 overall mark, which is the most wins in a single season under Director of Tennis
Eduardo Rincon. Kennesaw State has
Simon Pritchard,
Manuel Castellanos, Slade and
Lucas de Torres Curth honor with postseason awards, while the Owls advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
