Weekend Preview
The Kennesaw State women's tennis team opens play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Friday when it takes on Lipscomb at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex in Spartanburg, S.C. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
The Owls enter the championships with a 3-16 overall record and as the No. 5 seed, while the Bisons are 13-6 and seed fourth in the six-team tournament. The winner of Friday's match will take on No. 1 seed North Florida Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
 
Kennesaw State at the A-Sun Conference Championships
The Owls are appearing in the A-Sun Championships for the second consecutive year and fifth time overall, and has posted an 0-5 record. Kennesaw State and Lipscomb are meeting in the first round for the second straight year. The Bisons recorded a 4-0 victory over the Owls in 2015.

Laura Hopton, Cristina Martin Earn All-Conference Accolades
Sophomores Cristina Martin and Laura Hopton were named second team All-Atlantic Sun Conference, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday (April 20). Hopton recorded a 2-3 mark at No. 1 singles during five A-Sun Conference matches, while Martin recorded a 3-1 mark on No. 3 singles.
 
Cristina Martin Earns A-Sun Conference All-Academic Honors
Kennesaw State sophomore Cristina Martin was one of five individuals who were unanimous selections to the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic women's tennis team that was announced on Tuesday (April 19). Martin becomes the third Owls individual to earn the distinction, joining Alexandra Apostu (2012, 2013) and Virginie Stein (2013, 2014, 2015). A native of Madrid, Spain, Martin has posted a 4-2 dual match record during conference play while helping the Owls to an A-Sun Conference tournament berth. She also has excelled in the classroom, accumulating a 3.92 GPA while majoring in finance.
 
The Series vs. Lipscomb
Kennesaw State and Lipscomb will be meeting for the 10 time on Friday with the Owls leading the all-time series, 5-4. The two teams just met on Saturday and the Bisons posted a 5-2 victory in Kennesaw.
  
The Last Time Out
The Kennesaw State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon at the Siegel Student Center Courts on the KSU campus. Kennesaw State (3-16, 2-4) honored seniors Gabriela Bueno, Isabela Castro and Ashleigh De Wet prior to their final home match. Lipscomb won the doubles point and came out on top in the last three singles contests to clinch the victory. Sophomore Alexandra Mercado, playing at No. 1 singles, and sophomore Cristina Martin, competing at No. 2 singles, recorded victories. Mercado defeated Hannah Gamage, 6-3, 6-3 while Martin took down Katerina Kandybyba, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1.
