Kissimmee, Fla. –
Freshman Clara Aveling captured individual medalist honors and helped the Kennesaw State women's golf team to a third place finish at the 2016 Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, which wrapped up Wednesday (April 12) at the Reunion Resort Watson Course.

Aveling, who carded 13 pars en route to a final-round score of 5-over par 77, posted rounds of 70 and 71 on Sunday and Monday. She becomes the second consecutive Owl and third since 2013 to win A-Sun medalist honors, joining junior Dulcie Sverdloff (2015) and Ines Lescudier (2013).

Aveling helped the Owls post a final round 18-over par 306 to finish with a 54-hole total of 904 (+40), which was 14 shots back of North Florida, which claimed the team title. The Ospreys turned in a final-round 10-over 298 and concluded play at 26-over par 890.

"It is bitterly disappointing not to repeat as Atlantic Sun Champions," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We have a very talented roster, but we failed to put together the rounds needed to compete. Individually, I am so proud of Clara. To lead wire to wire is incredible, particularly for a freshman. The future of the program is very bright, and I'm hoping this sting of defeat will motivate the team to bigger and better performances."

Five-over par through 11 holes, Aveling settled down, registering pars on holes 12 through 18 to seal the individual title and her first collegiate win. She concluded play with a 54-hole total of two-over 218 (70-71-77).

Freshman Charlotte Charrayre fired a final round 3-over par 75. She notched her best finish of the year in a 54-hole event. Charrayre finished the tournament with a 10-over par 228, 10 shots behind teammate Aveling.

Junior Laura Estefenn and Freshmen Medy Thavong tied for 23rd overall with a total of 15-over par 231. Estefenn fired a four-over par 76 and Thavong closed with a six-over par 78.

Sverdloff carded a final-round 11-over par 83 to wrap up the tournament tied for 26th place with a 19-over par 235.
