COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior shortstop Missy Perkowski went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs to highlight a season-high 15-hit attack as Kennesaw State opened the Gamecock Invitational with a 9-1 victory over Connecticut Friday in Columbia, S.C.

The Owls (11-3) followed up that performance with a 7-0 setback to host South Carolina in their second game of the day.

A five-run second inning gave Kennesaw State an early lead, and a three-run sixth inning sealed the win over the Huskies (3-12).

Joining Perkowski with multiple hits against Connecticut were junior catcher Courtney Sutter (2-for-3, three RBIs), senior first baseman Megan Veringa (two hits, including a home run), and sophomore left fielder Katie Cannington, who collected a pair of hits and scored a run.

Logan Viers and Morgan Sikes (4-0) each worked three innings apiece, allowing the Huskies four hits and one run.

In the nightcap, South Carolina (15-2) scored four runs in the first inning, two in the fourth and one in the sixth to record the win. Jessica Elliott (10-0) and Nickie Blue, combined on the two-hit shutout as the Owls were held scoreless for the first time in 2016.

Kennesaw State returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 5) when it takes on Michigan State at 11 a.m. in Day Two of the Gamecock Invitational.

NOTES
