KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior
Isabela Castro and sophomore
Cristina Martin each recorded impressive singles victories to highlight Kennesaw State's 5-2 setback to visiting Chattanooga Wednesday (Mar. 23) at the Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation & Activities Center.
Â
Chattanooga (9-5) captured the doubles point before Kennesaw State (1-12) posted wins in the final two singles matches of the day.
Â
After falling 5-7 in the first set, Castro rallied back to win the second set, 6-2, and outlasted Rachele Gazzola, 12-10, in the third to record the win at No. 4 singles. Playing at No. 3 singles, Martin defeated Samantha Caswell in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
Â
"With Chattanooga being a good team all year, I think it should show our girls that we can play with these types of teams and to finish up strong like we did on the last two courts even though the overall match result was done, that's a small victory for us and something to build on moving forward," assistant head coach
Miranda Foley said. "That's a confidence building head into conference play and we just have to continue to put the work in the next couple of days and then get ready for Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday."
Â
Kennesaw State opens Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday (Mar. 26) when it hosts Florida Gulf Coast at the Betty L. Siegel Student Recreation & Activities Center
