KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon at the Siegel Student Center Courts on the KSU campus.

Louisiana Tech (11-3) won the doubles point and came out on top in the first three singles contests to clinch Sunday's victory.

The Owls playing at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles all won their first sets as KSU looked for the win. Sophomore Alexandra Mercado, playing at No. 3 singles, and freshman Jessica Cantrell, at No. 6 singles, recorded victories. Mercado defeated Marta Sramkova, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 10-5, while Cantrell took down Haley Ballinger, 7-6, 6-2.

The No. 5 singles match proved to be the clincher as KSU's Ashleigh De Wet battled Alba Escalona Perny. After winning the first set 6-1, De Wet fell 6-2 and 6-1 in the second and third sets, respectively.

"This match was very much within our grasp today," assistant head coach Miranda Foley said. "We had chances in doubles and came out and won the first sets in courts three through six. Jessica got her first collegiate dual match win which was great and shows that all her hard work is paying off.

"We must continue to put ourselves in positions like we did today and capitalize on opportunities that we are presented with," Foley added.

The Owls (1-11) are next in action on Sunday, March 23 they host Chattanooga at noon.
