ATHENS, Ga. – Twelfth-Ranked Georgia scored in each of the first three innings and went on to post an 8-1 victory over Kennesaw State Wednesday (Mar. 26) at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens.

Bulldogs starter Chelsea Wilkinson (12-1) allowed three hits in five innings and Brittany Gray pitched two scoreless innings to help Georgia improve to 24-3 on the season.

Freshman Hannah Thomason was an effective leadoff batter for the Owls (15-9) as she singled, scored a run, reached base twice and stole two bases.

"We played a really good softball team tonight and I am proud of the way our kids competed," head coach Tory Acheson said. "There are a number of positive things we can take away from this game that will help us as we get ready to open Atlantic Sun Conference play at Jacksonville this weekend."

The Bulldogs, who entered the game second in the nation in batting with a .382 average and eight of its nine starters batting .300 or better, showed the depth of their lineup, scoring all eight of their runs with two outs.

Georgia scored single runs in the first and second inning against Kennesaw State starter Logan Viers (7-3) before plating four runs in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead.

The four-run frame came after the Owls had broken through for a run against Wilkinson. With one out in the top of the third, Thomason singled, stole second and scored on a single to center field by Taylor Denton.

Georgia continued its two-out productivity with a pair of runs in the fifth to extend its advantage to 8-1.
