Final Results
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Paced by freshmen
Clara Aveling and
Medy Thavong, the Kennesaw State women's golf team posted a 12th-place finish against a strong field at the 3M Augusta Invitational. The tournament wrapped up Saturday with 36 holes at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
"We are going to need a short term memory about this result, as we leave midweek for our next event," Head Coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We honestly overall played 14 solid holes but holes 1-4 really hurt us this event. We dropped multiple shots on this stretch of holes and this really hurt us and our results. We will evaluate what we did well and what needs to improve and look ahead."
After shooting an even-par round of 72 on Friday, Aveling shot rounds of 78 and 75 on Saturday to tie for 32nd-place overall with a score of 225 (+9). Also placing 32nd was Thavong, who posted rounds of 74 and 77 Saturdayafter her Friday 74.
The team title went to the tournament hosts, 42nd-ranked Augusta University, which shot a tournament-low round of 280 in Saturday's final round to win the championship with a 3-under score of 861. The Jaguars were 10 strokes clear of second-place Coastal Carolina.
