KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State pitcher Logan Viers said she wasn't feeling all that well prior to Sunday's game against Alabama A&M in the finale of the Dr. Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament at Bailey Park.

The visiting Bulldogs (0-12) probably would not like to see Viers when she is feeling her best as the Owls' junior right-hander needed just 64 pitches to toss a perfect game in Kennesaw State's 8-0 six-inning victory over Alabama A&M.

"It's so exciting and so good to have such good defense," Viers said. "I wasn't feeling my best. I've had some back problems lately and today I was really sore before the game. In the third or fourth inning I realized it (a perfect game was happening) and nobody wanted to say anything. Everybody was saying don't say anything to her, we don't want to mess it up."

The silent treatment worked as Viers struck out six and had only two balls hit hard off her as she improved to 5-0 on the season.

The first relatively hard hit ball came to lead off the fourth inning when Alabama A&M's Imani Largin hit a ball in the hole that freshman shortstop Anastasia Villanueva made a nice backhanded play on and threw to first for the out.

The only other suspense came in the sixth inning when Lauren Walker hit a hard line drive to center field that Noelle Winkles caught for the second out of the inning. Viers struck out two in the sixth before the Owls offense made the perfect game official by scoring a run in the bottom half of the inning.

"We had some really clutch plays, Anna at shortstop, with her diving catch and throw from her knee, and the ball hit to Noelle," Viers said. "It was a whole team effort, I couldn't have done it without the help of all the other girls."

The perfect game was the sixth in Kennesaw State program history and first since 2008 when Brittany Matthews achieved the feat against Quinnipiac. It also marked the first KSU no-hitter since Jessica Cross did not allow a hit against East Tennessee State on April 16, 2011.

"I just have to give our kids a ton of credit. They came out today and really played the game the right way," head coach Tory Acheson said. "Defensively, we made a couple really big plays to support Logan, and Logan pitched great. I've been coaching 32 years now and that's the first perfect game I've ever had somebody throw for me."

Junior catcher Courtney Sutter provided a spark early, providing Viers with all the run support she would need, as she pulled a home run down the right field line to give Kennesaw State a 1-0 first-inning lead.

Winkles also had a big day at the plate as she hit her first home run of the season and scored twice, while senior Rachel Dennis led the Owls' 10-hit attack with three hits and two RBIs, and Missy Perkowski contributed two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

"I'm very proud of the kids for the way they bounced back and really played well," Acheson said. "It's a really great weekend and we really had a lot of people who did some really big things for us."

Kennesaw State will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 2) when in travels to Georgia State to take on the Panthers at 6 p.m. (ET).
