WG: Aveling Leads Owls on Day One of Amelia Island Collegiate

Freshman Tied for 11th after Two Rounds

Round 1 and 2 Results | Round 3 Tee Times | Round 3 Live Scoring
FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla
. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team had uncharacteristically inconsistent play throughout its lineup during Monday's opening 36 holes of the Amelia Island Collegiate and currently sits in fifth place.

The Owls posted a 1-over par 289 in the first round, the Owls carded a 17-over par 305 total in the second round for a 18-over par 594, 19 shots behind North Florida, which leads the 16-team field at the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf & Country Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

"A lot of mixed emotions today," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "This morning I was so proud of the teams play. We made smart decisions, executed well and really put ourselves in opportunities to score. Charlotte and Dulcie pieced together great sub par rounds. The afternoon round was a different story. Our execution was dismal, we counted multiple doubles and triples. There is no way you can compete when you're top four are making 6 and 7's. With that said, were focusing on what we did well today. Clara was a highlight through both rounds. As a team we've talked about performing better under pressure. Our goal tomorrow is to take it shot by shot and let the results take care of themselves."

Freshman Clara Aveling recorded rounds of 74-72 for a 146 total and is in a tie for 11th place, ten shots behind Daytona State College's JI Sun Kang, who turned in rounds of 68-68 for an 8-under total of 136.

Aveling  is one of three Kennesaw State players in the top 35 as she is joined by freshman Charlotte Charrayre and junior Dulcie Sverdloff . Charraryre opened with a career-low round of two-under par 70 in the morning before struggling to a 78 in the second round for a six-over par total of 148 which is tied for 21st. Sverdloff posted her second under par round of the season with a 1 under-par 71 in the first round but a second round 80 pushed her total to a 7 over-par 151 on day one has her tied for 34th.

Freshman Medy Thavong recorded rounds of 74-79 for a 9-over par 153 and is tied for 45th. Junior Laura Estefenn turned in rounds of 78-76 and is tied for 45th at 10-over par 154.

Sophomore Henriette Nielsen, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 77th after rounds of 80 and 83.

The Owls conclude play on Tuesday with final-round action beginning at 8:30 a.m. Kennesaw State will be grouped with Campbell and Daytona State College. All the action can be followed live on the Internet at www.golfstatresults.com.
