DELAND, Fla.  –The Kennesaw State women's basketball team dropped an Atlantic Sun Conference showdown against host Stetson University on Monday (Feb. 22) evening, 77-62, wrapping up its two-game trip to Florida.

Junior forward Deandrea Sawyers led the Owls, posting her first double-double of the season with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Sawyers, who entered the game 18 points shy of 1,000 career points, is now one point shy of joining the all-time milestone list.

Redshirt sophomore Kelly Dulkoski also chipped in, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Between Dulkoski and Sawyers, the two combined for 33 points on 12-of-25 shooting, accumulating 53 percent of KSU's points on the evening.

Trailing by as many as 18 (46-28) just a few minutes into the third quarter, Kennesaw State went on a 11-3 run to cut the deficit within 10 with 4:18 remaining in the frame at 49-39.

The burst came at the hands of Sawyers and hit two 3-pointers and a layup to jumpstart the Owls throughout the run.

For the third, Sawyers hit 4-of-8 shots and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to total 11 points, pulling the Owls with 12 heading to the final frame. Sawyers made four of the Owls' six field goals in the frame and all three of KSU's 3-pointers, outscoring the Hatters 17-15 in the 10 minute span.

However, the Hatters' early advantage proved to be too much in the end, leading wire-to-wire in the game to earn the home victory. For the game, Stetson shot 27-of-54 (50 percent) from the field and 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.

Meanwhile, the Owls shot 20-for-57 from the floor overall and 11-for-29 from beyond the arc, falling two makes shy of a new all-time Division I record. KSU made seven 3-pointers in the second half on 54 percent shooting from deep.

Coach Perry Quote
"Our lack of defense tonight and early foul trouble really kept us from getting going the way we needed to. I am proud of the effort that Deandrea (Sawyers) had on the boards today. She and Kelly (Dulkoski) also shot the well from beyond the arc."
