ATLANTA – A valiant second-half comeback came up just short as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell, 62-59, to Georgia State Tuesday (Nov. 22) at the GSU Sports Arena.

The Owls (0-4), who rallied from behind to take a 57-52 lead with 6:11 remaining, saw the Panthers (3-2) go on a 10-2 run the rest of the way to record the victory and deny Kennesaw State its first win of the season.

Junior Clara Young led the Owls with a career-high tying 15 points, while junior Chloe Branch came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, and sophomores Allison Johnson and Iceis Walker each added 10 points. Young scored in double figures for the fourth time this season.

"The second half was a great half. The cold spell we had came in the second quarter when we scored just six points," head coach Agnus Berenato said. "I was really proud of the kids. There were a lot of positive tonight. They were really motivated, fought like crazy, and we got 15 points from our bench, which is the most we've had this year.

"We can take the positives and work off of them. We will be back in the gym tomorrow working to get better, and we look forward to the challenge," Berenato added.

After trailing 30-24 at the half, Kennesaw State out-scored Georgia State, 35-32 in the second half and finished the game shooting 42 percent from the field. Unfortunately for the Owls, it came down to inside play where the Panthers held advantages of 46-28 in the paint, 29-2 in second-chance points, and 45-31 on the boards.

Kennesaw State out-shot an opponent for the first time this season, holding a 42 percent (20-for-48) to 36 percent (25-for-70) advantage.
