Final Results
Kiawah Island, S.C. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team closed out the fall season on a strong note in windy conditions at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Oct. 25). The team finished in fifth place after the third and final round at the par-72, 5,972-yard Turtle Point Golf Club in Kiawah Island, S.C.
"In very tough, windy conditions we got it done today," head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We saved our best for the last round and got rewarded with a fifth place finish and wins over two ranked teams in Chattanooga and Augusta. Charlotte was clutch today, shooting even par and birding her last two holes. I'm so proud of the way this team progressed over the fall. Each event we improved, this is huge motivation to continue to work this off season so we can dominate the spring season. This result is exactly what we needed as a reward for their hard work! This proves what we've been working on all fall is working and we can compete with anyone."
The Owls posted a final round 9-over par 297 with a 30-over par total of 894 for the tournament to grab their fourth top-10 team finish of the fall. Campbell shot a 5-over par 293 for a total of 15-over par 879 to grab the team title.
Medy Thavong continued her strong sophomore campaign as she carded a 2-over par 74 in the final round to finish with a 6-over par total of 222 for the tournament. Thavong was the Owls top finisher in four of the team's five fall tournaments.
Henriette Nielsen recorded a 5-over par 77 and with a total of 9-over par 229 to finish tied for 28
th. Nielsen tied for the tournament field lead with 39 pars, including 14 in the final round.
Dulcie Sverdloff fired a 3-over par 75 in the final round with two birdies, and tied for 31st with a 10-over par total of 226. Sverdloff is 10 rounds away from becoming the KSU all-time leader in rounds played Joining Sverdloff at 10-over par 226 was
Charlotte Charrayre who turned in the Owls' lowest round of the day with an even-par 72.. The final round score of 72 by Charrayre was her lowest of the season.
Laura Estefenn wrapped up the fall with a four-over par 76 and finished tied for 47th with a 14-over par total of 230.
The Owls will now begin preparing for the spring season, when they will return to tournament action at the Amelia Island Collegiate Feb.20-21, 2017. The tournament will be hosted by Jacksonville University at Amelia Island Golf Club in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
