KENNESAW, Ga. – Led by senior Christopher Guglielmo, the No. 34 Kennesaw State men's golf team is in second place after 36 holes of the Pinetree Intercollegiate that is being played at the par-72, 7,108-yard Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw.

Iowa State made a second-round charge, carding a 7-under par 281 and holds a two-shot advantage over the Owls. The Cyclones possess a two-round total of 4-over par 580.

Kennesaw State, which shot an 11-under par 287 in the opening round, recorded a second-round score of 7-over par 295 and sits at 6-over par 582.

"This morning's round was very steady throughout the lineup and equated into a solid team score," Kennesaw State head coach Bryant Odom said. "Unfortunately, the second round got off to a rocky start and we were forced to battle back the remainder of the day.

"The guys were able to regain some momentum on the back nine to keep themselves in contention heading into tomorrow (Tuesday)," Odom added.

Iowa State's Denzel Ieremia shot a second-round 8-under par 65 and sits atop the individual leaderboard with an 8-under par total of 136. Ieremia holds a four-shot lead over three players, including Guglielmo, who recorded rounds of 73-67 for a 4-under 140 total.

"Chris had a wonderful round and is also in position for an individual victory," Odom said. "I believe the back nine was crucial for our mindset heading into tomorrow. We are excited about the opportunity to defend our turf and getting the first win of the season."

In addition to Guglielmo, the Owls have four players in the top 20. Freshman Connor Coffee (70-75 – 145; +1) is tied for eighth, while senior Teremoana Beaucousin (72-76 – 148; +4) and sophomore Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres (72-77 – 149; +5). Freshman Jake Fendt (73-79 – 152; +8) is tied for 28th.

The Owls also have three players competing as individuals. Juniors Buster Bruton (80-81 – 161; +17) and Paul Doig (82-79 – 161; +17) are tied for 54th, while freshman Walker Bottomley (82-82 – 164; +20) is tied for 60th.

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 8:10 a.m. All the action can be followed live at www.golfstatresults.com.
