TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
David Durham and Drew Wendel reached the Round of 16 in the Doubles Draw to highlight the weekend for the Kennesaw State men's tennis team at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship at Florida State.

The Owls saw senior Simon Pritchard and sophomore Fermin Calvo Barcelo win their first-round matches in the Main Singles Draw, while Durham and Wendel went 2-1 in doubles action.

"Overall I'm very pleased with the way we competed this weekend," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "The fact that we had two players advance to the Round of 32 and one team reach the Round of 16 says a lot about the progress we've made in the last few years. Unfortunately, we failed to capitalize on some opportunities, but that's part of playing at a high level. It was definitely a good experience for us against a very tough field."

Durham and Wendel ousted FAU's Nickerson and Burnett, 8-4, and then took down Georgia's Phillips and Loeb by a similar 8-4 score to reach the final 16. But the run was ended by Hawkins and Muscheites from North Florida, 8-2.

Pritchard won his opening-round singles match over FAU's Morin-Kougoucheff, 6-2, 7-6 (10) and also teamed with Manuel Castellanos to win their first-round doubles match. The duo defeated Chaffin and Fernandez from Florida Gulf Coast, 8-7 (5).

Pritchard was defeated in the second round of the singles draw by UGA's Montgomery (6-2, 6-2), while he and Castellanos fell to Florida's Ingildsen and Perez, 8-1.

Calvo Barcelo, who joined the Owls this season after transferring from Miami also went 1-1 in singles action this weekend. He beat Ball from Stetson in straight sets (6-3, 7-6 (3)), before UGA's Reinberg stopped his run (6-3, 7-1).

The Owls will wrap up their fall schedule at the Georgia Southern Championships in Statesboro this weekend.
