TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The Kennesaw State women's and men's cross country teams closed out the regular season at the Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Park at the University of Alabama on Friday, October 14.
In the women's 6K race, the women's team was led by
Kidan Kidane who finished 14
th with a time of 21:16.5. Kidane's time is third fastest 6k times in program history. Caityln Farrell finished 132nd in 23.16.6. She was followed by Bonnie Mckinnon who grabbed 143rd in 23:26.9 and
Saidah Grant who finished 145
th in 23:28.9. Kaitlyn Franklin crossed the line in 23:52.7 to finish 166th, while
Nicole Zaubi crossed in 23:56.1 to finish 170
th to round out the scoring for the Owls. Paulette Juienng (24:58.8) and
Magee Morris (25:40.5) also posted times for the Owls who finished 19
th as a team.
"Kidan had a strong race today on a tough course," Kennesaw State head coach
David Poteet said. "The goal is and has always been conference and regionals. Today was a good sign she is ready for both of those meets."
The men's team was led by junior transfer
Paul Schupp in their 8K race. Schupp finished 151st in 27:14.7. Fellow junior
Jordan Hand crossed the finish line in 27:30.5 in 168th. Freshman
Will Hasse (27:33.3) and sophomore
Derrick Kinyanjui (27:33.4) finished 170st and 171st respectively. Freshman
Max Warner rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing 202nd in (27:33.96) as the men's team grabbed a 29
th place finish.
"We are going to be spending the next two weeks continuing to get ready for the ASUN Conference Championships," Poteet said. "I know we will be ready for both. A great season is culminated by both those races. The women's team is showing good signs they will be prepared well to compete at conference and some of them will move on to regionals. The men must drop their times to compete, and we will be working diligently on that in the next two weeks before conference."
The Owls will head back to Spartanburg, South Carolina for the ASUN Conference Championships at the Milliken Research Park at South Carolina Upstate on
Saturday, October 29 at 8:30 a.m.
