PINEHURST, N.C. – The Kennesaw State women's golf team posted a final-round 18-over par 306 to finish in eighth place with a 54-hole total of 33-over par 897 at the Pinehurst Challenge that concluded Tuesday (Oct. 11) at the par-72, 5,974-yard Pinehurst No.1.
"Our drop in the team results today is obviously not the finish we wanted," Kennesaw State head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We have to do a better job of playing with better energy, intensity, focus and decision making. We put ourselves behind early and struggled all day trying to make up shots. The pressure definitely got to us, and we faltered again on our final holes. Medy and Dulcie both had a solid tournament with top-20 finishes. With a much-needed break this weekend, we will regroup and requalify before our next event."
Dulcie Sverdloff carded a final-round 2-over 74, while
Medy Thavong shot a 3-over par 75 as both finished tied for 19th with a 6-over par 222 total. For Sverdloff, that is her 15th top-20 finish over of her career.
Henriette Nielsen recorded a 7-over par-79 to finish tied for 37th with a total of 9-over par 225. Nielsen's top-40 finish is her best finish since spring of 2015.
Laura Estefenn closed with a 6-over par 78 for a 228 total score and finished tied for 50th, while
Charlotte Charrayre (233) tied for 71st.
East Carolina won the 18-team event with a total score of 3-under par 861.
The Owls will close out the fall season with a trip to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Kiawah Island Challenge hosted by College of Charleston at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort October 23-25.
