Spartanburg, S.C.-Â The Kennesaw State women's and men's cross country teams posted strong performances at the Upstate Invitational on the Milliken Research Park at South Carolina Upstate on Saturday, October 1.
"Both the women's and men's teams ran with confidence and aggressively," Kennesaw State head coach
David Poteet said. Â "That paid off with much better times and places. We are learning to stay smart aggressive, which leads to a better pack toward the front for the women, who placed a good third out if nine D1 teams. Kidan and
Lexi Froh had exceptional races and everyone ran much better. The goal is to be ready to be our best at conference and regionals."
In the women's 5K race, the women's team was led by
Kidan Kidane who won the race with a time of 17:39.63. Freshman
Lexi Froh would cross the finish line 12
th in 18:41.16. Sophomore Caitlyn Farrell would be next to finish in 20
th with a time of 19:05.78. Freshman Bonnie Mckinnon (19:30.28) and
Kaitlin Franklin
(19:33.48) finished 28
th and 30
th to round out the scoring for the Owls. Freshman
Nicole Zaubi (19:43.08) and junior
Saidah Grant (19:48.37) grabbed 34
th and 36
th places respectively. The Owls grabbed a third place finish as team scoring.
For the third consecutive meet the men's team was led by junior transferÂ
Paul Schupp in their 8K race. Schupp finished 19th in 26:14.19. Fellow junior
Jordan Hand crossed the finish line in 26:31.64. Freshman
Max Warner (27:28.14) and sophomore
Derrick Kinyanjui (27:31.68) finished 32
nd and 33
rd respectively. Freshman
Will Hasse rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing 35
th in (27:33.96).
The Owls will head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the Crimson Tide Classic on Friday, October 14.
