MEN'S DRAW | WOMEN'S RESULTS

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --
The Kennesaw State men's tennis team enjoyed a strong finish to the Steve Baras Fall Classic Saturday as two of the Owls doubles teams won their flights. The tournament was hosted by Chattanooga.

Drew Wendel and David Durham won the Flight 2 bracket, while Jake Bouchillon and Drew Lahey claimed the Flight 3 bracket. Wendel, Durham and Lahey each posted multiple singles victory on the weekend to go with their doubles success.

In all, the Owls finished with a 13-10 overall record in singles action, while posting an 8-4 record in doubles play. The Kennesaw State women saw mixed results versus a tough field, with freshman Kennedy Craig picking up the Owls' lone victory of the weekend.

"After a rough start to singles, the guys really picked it up and ended strong in our last two singles rounds," said Director of Tennis Eduardo Rincon. "We played much better tennis Saturday and that says a lot about this group of guys. I'm also really pleased with the play of our freshmen this weekend. On the women's side, this was a very strong field and I was proud of Kennedy. I know the women are eager to get back on the court."

The duo of Wendel and Durham took down Mercer's Stuart and Tsiranidis, 6-0, in the first round, then rolled past Chattanooga's Birnbaum and Grobbelaar (6-4) and Eastern Kentucky's Lineberry and Stoffels (6-2) to finish out the Flight 2 draw.

Bouchillon and Lahey beat Mercer's Guardia and Guillon (6-4), UTC's Llebeili and LaHue (6-4) and Mercer's Fried and Khurana (6-4) to claim the Flight 3 bracket.

"I was really pleased with our play in doubles," said Rincon. "Drew and David have been rock solid for the last two years and it's only fitting that they finally get to win a title. Those two have the ability to beat a lot of top teams when they're on. It was also very rewarding to see Jake pair up with Drew Lahey to win Flight 3. Both of those guys come from the same academy and have known each other for a long time. Jake has done a great job mentoring Drew and taking him under his wing."

The Owls' No. 1 doubles team of Manuel Castellanos and Simon Pritchard were not in action this weekend. They are preparing for All-American qualifying, which begins Monday at Tulsa.
