Women's basketball players Ogoke, Galloway pick up Division I All-America recognition from NAIA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Southern Polytechnic State University women's basketball players Sarah Ogoke and Arnissa Galloway recently picked up Division I All-America recognition from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Ogoke is a 2014 NAIA Division I Second Team All-American while Galloway earned a spot on the honorable mention list. Both Ogoke and Galloway were earlier selected to the All-Southern States Athletic Conference Team.



The 2013-14 NAIA Division I Women's Basketball All-America teams consist of 11 players each on the first, second and third teams. An additional 49 players garnered honorable mention accolades with all of the honorees being chosen by the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee.

Ogoke, a 5-foot-9 senior guard from Sugar Land, Texas, was named as an NAIA Division I Third Team All-American last year. During her senior season, Ogoke led Southern Polytechnic in scoring (451 points, 17.35 per game), field goals made (145), three-point field goals made (43), three-point field goal percentage (40.2 percent), free throws made (118), free throw percentage (81.9 percent), defensive rebounds (159, 6.12 a contest) and assists (83, 3.19 per outing) while averaging 7.62 rebounds and 1.92 steals a game. Within the conference, she ranked second in free throw percentage, fourth in three-point field goal percentage, fourth in defensive rebounds per game, sixth in scoring, seventh in field goal percentage, seventh in steals per game, ninth in total points, ninth in total defensive rebounds, ninth in assists per game, tied for ninth in double-doubles (seven) and 10th in rebounds per game. Nationally in NAIA Division I, Ogoke ended No. 19 in free throw percentage, No. 21 in three-point field goal percentage, No. 22 in defensive rebounds per game and No. 30 in scoring.

A 6-foot-1 senior forward/center out of Columbia, Miss., Galloway is the 2014 SSAC Defensive Player of the Year. In 2013-14, she paced Southern Poly in rebounds (235, 7.83 a contest), offensive rebounds (110, 3.67 per outing) and blocked shots (46, 1.53 a game) while tallying 11.43 points per contest. In the SSAC, she finished second in offensive rebounds per game, second in blocked shots per game, second in total blocked shots, third in total offensive rebounds, eighth in rebounds per game, ninth in total rebounds and tied for ninth in double-doubles. On the national level in NAIA Division I, Galloway was 18th in offensive rebounds per game, 18th in blocked shots per game, tied for 18th in total offensive rebounds and 21st in total blocked shots.

The Hornets, ranked No. 29 nationally in the most recent NAIA Division I coaches' poll, made their fourth trip in the last five years to the NAIA Division I national tournament in 2014. SPSU went 23-8 overall and 16-4 in conference play, claiming the outright SSAC Eastern Division championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA Division I national event.
